On February 14, 2019, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law the Child Victims Act.
Most importantly, this law provides for a one-year “window” of time for victims of child sexual abuse to pursue civil cases, even if the case was previously time-barred by the statute of limitations. The law is effective as of August 14, 2019, and survivors must pursue their case before August 14, 2020 when the window will close.
It is important to have your case evaluated by an experienced attorney now, because once the window closes, you may be precluded from bringing a case.
